Shadowing is a form of design research that is used to gain understanding of someone’s role or job. It allows this through the observation of the individual in their role to improve one’s general knowledge of the position and to allow them to gain insights into what is involved. This normally only lasts a couple of days it involves a less hands on approach to gaining understanding of how the role works and the expectations the individual must meet.
I was unable to take part in this exercise as part of my module due to my being absent on a study trip to Amsterdam so I have no first hand experience of this design research method. I think it would be a good thing to do at some point in the future though.
