As part of my design methods and insight gathering module I participated in generative research exercises that my lecturer set for us as a class. As groups, we were asked to build the exterior of our dream house. At the end of the task, we had to identify as a class the three most desired features for us to a collective group.
Generative Research is a design research method that involves people as creators, letting them show the designer how best to design with their clients needs in mind. It allows the designer to really understand the client.
Participating in this exercise was really helpful in letting me see how successful it is in helping a designer identify what features a client / user feels is most important or crucial to the design. It allows the designer to be more sympathetic to their clients needs.
