For the final aspect of our Picture, Symbol, Icon Module, we were asked to design and render a branded dashboard interface for ‘Letters Home’, an application that lets artists/designers show animations that are their response to typographic challenges. I began by playing about with layouts for the icons and text, sketching potential ideas in my sketchbook. By listing things that I relate to the title of the app, I began to come up with ideas for unusual shapes for icons that I hoped would make the dashboard interesting. I decided two of the icons would be shaped like envelopes and two would mirror the basic shape of a stamp.
I really like the layout that I came up with, I really made an effort to come up with something a bit more interesting than rectangles or circles. I then went into more detail of what each individual icon would look like, sketching ideas until I came up with something I liked for each button.
I will go on to render this using photoshop, perhaps using simple animation to add interest to a design that is intended to be an interactive interface.
